A commitment to music excellence in Southeast Iowa.
The Southeast Iowa Band (SEIB) is a limited size 50-piece regional wind/percussion ensemble sponsored by Iowa Wesleyan University (IWU). We prepare a program with a variety of music—classical, pops, show tunes, marches, and folk music—presented in an entertaining fashion.
The band is an outlet for regional musicians seeking to maintain their skills at the highest level, and for qualified IWU and high school performers. Most programs are put together in a series of 5 Sunday night rehearsals.
Many of the SEIB members perform and teach professionally throughout the region. Much of the group includes adults who travel long distance because they are dedicated to performing in a band of the highest quality.
The SEIB is under the direction of Robert McConnell who first started working with the group in the fall of 1982 and Dr. Michael Knight on the music faculty of Iowa Wesleyan. The directors give the audience some dialogue and occasional musical demonstrations that enhance the program.
